Fly Fishing Canoe Adventure

This four-week (two hours per week) course is designed to enable 20 students to catch Maine native fish using fly rods and flies they have tied, while negotiating the Kennebec River in their own canoe. Take them separately or mix and match and save $25 on each class after your first. This course is designed to provide homeowners with all the information they need to understand the workings of their home electrical system. Projects include learning proper wiring techniques, how to install switches and outlets, troubleshooting, as well as the most recent National Electrical Codes.

This course is a six-week (two hours per week) course designed to develop requisite field craft skills for safety and comfort in the Maine outdoor environment for 12 students. This course culminates in a solo outdoor canoe adventure in the Allagash Wilderness Waterway. Course includes: an introduction to Maine’s natural environment, fire and shelter building, land navigation using a map, compass and GPS, meal preparation in an austere environment, orientation to canoe paddling, the psychology of being alone, overnight solo canoe adventure in the AWW, and a photo journal peer presentation. Registered Maine Guide Preparation Course

This course is an eight-week (two hours per week) class designed to prepare 20 students to apply for and take Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Licensing written and oral boards. 

Course includes: history and traditions of registered Maine Guides, IFW rules and regulations, land navigation with a map, compass and GPS, 100 question exam prep by classification, plant and tree indentification, waterfowl and bird identification, critical incident and lost person scenario planning, field first aid review, risk planning and mitigation, anticipating and reacting to adverse weather patterns, canoes, firearms, and field craft familiarization, oral boards and peer reviews, field classroom excercise and graduation ceremony.

Small Engine Repair

This informative, hands-on course teaches students how to repair gasoline engines found in recreational vehicles and outdoor power equipment such as lawn mowers, snow throwers, chain saws and garden tractors. Students will strip, measure, inspect and reassemble a four-cycle engine as part of their training. Students are encouraged to bring and repair their own small engines. As with all courses held in one of our shops, the first night of class will be mandatory shop and tool safety. Required: steel toed boots & safety glasses. Parts are not provided as part of the course.
