Crochet: Mastering the Basics
Students will learn foundational crochet techniques, how to read crochet chart symbols, and understand the difference between US and UK terminology. Patterns will be introduced and what types of yarn is best suited for various crochet projects.
Students will start with basic crochet projects (headband/scarf) that incorporates stitches learned in class and expand to others crochet projects weekly. The instructor will share patterns and provide a list of what students may need to bring for the next class.
For the first class, students will need to bring the following:
H/5mm crochet hook
Skein of any color, smooth, medium-weight (#4 worsted a/k/a size 4 or 4-ply) yarn such as Red Heart or Big Twist. Choosing light or solid color yarn will make it easier to see the crochet stitches when first learning.
Pair of scissors. A multipurpose tiny sewing scissor suitable for crocheting, embroidery, needlework, knitting, etc.
Tapestry needles (variety pack). A variety pack is recommended because the size of the eyelet on the tapestry needle is determined by the size of the yarn.
The above-mentioned items can be purchased at various stores such as Michaels, Joann Fabric, Hobby Lobby, and Walmart.
