COST IS TO BE DECIDED. This 200-hour program is approved by and conducted in accordance with Maine Department of Health & Human Services and Division of Licensing & Regulatory Services utilizing the Modular Education Program for Activity Professionals (MEPAP) 2nd edition curriculum. The program builds from providing activity services to individuals and groups as a care giver, to developing and managing Activity Department services as a supervisor. Understanding social gerontology and adult development and growth across the life span is taught as the cornerstone for service approach. Elder care, on all levels, is investigated. Participants will learn to perform as full members of the health care team whose common objective is the quality of life for the dependent adult and to advocate for services in the private and public setting. Training is provided to individual students, small group (2-4), or full class (5-8+) depending on interest. For that reason, the cost of the program and its schedule will be decided by the instructor as potential students register. Contact UTC for more information.
American Heart First Aid

This certification class is perfect for bus drivers, teachers, parents, child care providers, summer camp counselors and others. Students receive hands-on instruction and practice in first aid emergencies including how to care for bleeding, bone fractures, head injuries, heat/cold emergencies, allergic reactions, poisoning, airway obstruction, etc.
Basic Life Support (BLS)

The BLS for Healthcare Providers course is for healthcare professionals who need to know how to perform CPR, as well as other lifesaving skills, in a wide variety of in-hospital and out-of-hospital settings. This course covers: adult and pediatric CPR, two-rescuer scenarios and use of the bag valve masks, foreign body airway obstruction, automated external defibrillation, special resuscitation situations, stroke and cardiac arrest, and other cardiopulmonary emergencies. Participants will receive a certification card after successful completion.
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

This 180-hour course fulfills DHHS and DLRS requirements to work as a Certified Nursing Assistant in the State of Maine, including 90 hours of classroom instruction, 20 hours of skills lab instruction, and 70 hours of clinical training at an approved healthcare facility (typically done on selected Friday nights and all day Saturday). Upon successful completion of the course, students will take the state exam administered at UTC. Cost includes BLS/CPR Certifications, textbook, background check, state exam fee & liability insurance while in training. * This program has been approved for the use of GI Bill benefits.
