We are currently taking applications for our Certified Med Tech course which will begin May 8, 2018. The deadline to apply is April 3, 2018 – complete applications are due at that time.

The purpose of this course is to teach experienced CNAs to administer selected non-injectable medications to patients who are 4 years of age and older. This complex nursing task shall be performed under the direct onsite supervision of a licensed nurse only in long term care nursing facilities, state mental health institutions, county jails and state correctional facilities and assistive living settings. The 120 hour (60 hours of theory/classroom; 20 hours of skill laboratory and 40 hours of clinical experience) is Maine State Board of Nursing approved using the Standardized Medication Course for Certified Nursing Assistants curriculum.

You’ll begin by learning word parts (prefixes, roots, suffixes) that are essential to understanding medical language. To make the terms easier to understand and remember, the instructor will explain specific workplace situations where these terms are used. You will also begin learning the specific medical terminology related to systems of the body. This class is valuable for those who plan to pursue jobs in medical offices as transcriptionists or coders & billers.

Registered Maine Guide (Rec)

This course focuses on the skills and knowledge that aspiring Registered Maine Guides need to successfully lead groups on camping, hiking, and canoeing trips in the Maine wilderness. The 12 week course emphasizes Maine outdoor traditions which can be useful to anyone who wishes to increase their outdoor skills. The curriculum includes law book review, map and compass reading, lost person scenario training, outdoor cooking, watercraft regulations, canoeing skills, GPS, campsite setup, safety and survival, weather, and client care. First aid certification, which is necessary for Maine Guide candidates to be licensed, is also included in the cost of this course. Please note that the Maine Guide Exam fee is not included in the cost of this course.

Small Engine Repair

This informative, hands-on course teaches students how to repair gasoline engines found in recreational vehicles and outdoor power equipment such as lawn mowers, snow throwers, chain saws and garden tractors. Students will strip, measure, inspect and reassemble a four-cycle engine as part of their training. Students are encouraged to bring and repair their own small engines. As with all courses held in one of our shops, the first night of class will be mandatory shop and tool safety. Required: steel toed boots & safety glasses. Parts are not provided as part of the course.

Structural Welding I

For people who have had little or no welding experience, this class teaches students how to correctly and safely use cutting equipment, power tools and welding equipment used in shielded metal arc welding, commonly known as “stick welding”. Students spend extensive time hands-on in the welding shop improving their skills. Students will learn how to create multi-pass fillets with E6010 and E7018 electrodes in all positions and on a variety of joint types. Emphasis will be on creating quality welds. This course continues in Welding II to prepare students for certification testing.
